Walton on the Naze, UK Fossil Hunting

The trip started out by waking up at the wee hours of the morning (4:30 AM) and heading out by 6:30 AM to be a the site by low tide time of 8:00 AM. We arrived with no real trouble at all thanks to the Tom-Tom Navigation system I bought. Spent 6 hours searching fruitlessly and then took a break. The Wife and I then decided to move down the beach a bit and while looking around…I was informed by a young child with no less than 15 teeth in his pocket, that I was doing it all wrong. I was informed that you have to get down on your hands and knees and gently sift through the bit of gravel and eventually you’ll find them (Kinda like Rock Splitter and I had to do at particular watering hole that was bone dry). An hour and half later, SCORE!!! I found my first tooth, not long after, I found a couple more…total in all was 4 teeth which are in the Shore Finds picture. Also shown in that same picture is what appears to be a rather large piece of Mud…it is, but it has several imprint from shells as well as what appears to be a larger shell completely encased; the gray, round looking item is also mud, that encased a shell…if you look close enough, you can see what looks like a reddish part in the center…that is a part of the shell; the other round, brownish blob, is also a shell encased in mud from way back when. The big Meg looking tooth like thing in the picture Walton-on-the-Naze finds is really a wicked piece of flint…Mother Nature having fun with the lower life forms. In the Pyrited Wood picture, I found an area that had slid away from the main cliff line and these little beauties were everywhere. The formations that are here are called London Clay and Red Crag. A good time was had by all, and I look forward to going back in the near future.
