Las VegasHello all!
A couple months ago, i journeyed out west to meet up with my godparents (my parents are ok, im just visiting my godparents). they live near Las Vegas. we spent a week of spring break together, as they showed me everything (except the bars :( and casino floors). one stop was to red rock canyon, a beutiful canyon of iron "red" rock. i wanted FOSSILS, but alas, that site isnt known for fossils. suprisingly, i found a couple brachiopods, but not what i had hoped. i then wanted to go to this fossil site my godmother said her student told her about. we searched but couldnt find it and evenutually had to leave for home. i was so bummed, my godmother suggessted that we get up really early the next day and try to find it again. we returned to the spot, but couldnt find it. we had asked locals, who thought we were crazy. we were ready to leave, when i asked her to pull over to a small road cut. after a few minutes of looking, i found a bryozoan. i was so happy. the barbed wire kept me from going further, so i suggested to pull up to a cliff without barbed wire. a few hundred feet down, i found such a cliff. this cliff was loaded with fossils! after 45 minutes, we had to go :(. i had left there with a couple pounds of rock. i had a great time! my question is that i found crinoids, archaeocaythids, brachipods, bryozoan, and possibly a spriggina. these fossils range all the way from the edicarian (spriggina) to cambrian (archaeocaythids, bryozoan, and brachiopods) and the ordivician (crinoids). which age is this formation? i looked up a geo map that says it could be either of the three. i am leaning towards cambrian, but the crinoids appered in the ordivician. could they be from different layers? thank you for reading!
