First Calvert Cliffs Meg and other cool stuffHeading to Disney with the family this week and as a reward for being in FLA but not getting to hunt my wife "encouraged" me to get out of the house and take the three hour ride from Philly to Calvert Cliffs.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth and since the low tide was going to be around 10.30 (instead of 7.30 like the last time I went to the cliffs) I decided to bundle up and hit the beach.
After the first hour and some, searching in the drizzle, I didn't have much to show. Then just like one of those magic ground shots from this site, I climbed over a boulder and there was my first Calvert Cliffs meg! Sitting on top of a small rock like it was left there for me by the fossil gods. Almost two inches of serrated goodness. I don't even see the ding when I look at it.
As it started to rain a bit harder I really considered packing it in but I kept looking and got to add a 1.5" mako and my first cow shark tooth to the collection. I know they don't look like much but this was easily one of the best days I've ever had at the cliffs....almost makes the news about PCS easier to swallow.
I've also included pics from a November trip where I found a nice Hemi and a "union case" that I found on the beach. Apparently a union case held daguerreotypes and was used sometime in the late 19th century - so you never know what'll turn up.
