Having My Way with the RiverI have had a ridiculous amount of success in the Edisto river this year, and this post is no exception. We went to a site that we found a few years ago but only hunted once or twice last year. Its the first time we've been back this year and the fossils were literally everywhere. I picked up the shark teeth two or three at a time and I could not film them all there were so many. Big teeth, medium size teeth, small teeth, they were all there out in the open for anyone to pick up. I fanned about 20 percent of the teeth because the rock layer was so good that I had to fan down to see what was under the surface. I also scored 4 crocodile teeth - a pretty big accomplishment. I don't find a whole lot of these. I found them all in the same general vicinity so they could be associated, but since I found them in the gravel and not the actual formation there is no way to be sure. I also got three decent horse teeth, a ray plate, and a few whale teeth. Getting back to this spot is a priority! I'm sure I'll hit it at least a few more times before summer is over.
Besides for the obvious enjoyment I get from finding this much, its nice to see the kids coming into their own too. It wasn't too long ago they were fledgling hunters. Now they are fossil hunting machines fueled by mexican food like their father.
