Walk Ins Welcome - No Ap-point-ment necessaryI've had a doozy of a cold since I came back from family vacation. I'm finally getting better and today the kids were antsy to get back to the river. We didn't have a plan besides doing a walk in dive at an old faithful spot. Since we've hit it so many times, its tough to find an unworked gravel bed but we settled down in an area where a few rocks poked through the sand. Fanning the sand revealed a lot more beneath so we went to work hunting. We fanned out a few teeth but for the first part of the hunt there wasn't much. But I was noticing a bunch of pottery shards so I kept hunting, hoping to flip out a point. As I moved up river, I kept flipping out more and more pottery. Then I hit paydirt with a superior point! Then more pottery and within 5 minutes of the first point I found another. The first point was the best of the two - its very sharp and well formed. The second, though not as symmetrical is interesting because it was broken and re-sharpened which happended a lot. I stayed in that one spot almost the whole day. I did find one decent angustidens, but the weezling ended up with the best tooth of the day - a little killer benedeni. He also found a meg, albeit very worn. Megalodon teeth are tough to come by in that river! I know there are more points in that spot. Next time, I'm going right back there. It'll have to wait a little though - soon I will don the lederhosen for Rivrdigrfest 2010 which will take me to sunny Florida for a week.
