Aurora Fossil Festival 2013Hey everyone! This is my first post on this forum,
so I hope you enjoy it! I left the house around 8 and arrived at the festival
around 11:30. It was a great day with a nice temperature. I met my friend Zachj
there and we surface collected the parking lot all day long. There were teeth
everywhere! I used knee pads and just crawled all over the material picking up
one tooth after the other. There were so
many I couldn't film picking them all up. After a while, Zach went to go get a
hotdog, but I stayed in the parking lot picking up teeth. A guy approached me
and asked me how the collecting was I replied "I found a nice lower mako
and a couple other decent ones" He said something like that's nice and then he
asked me if I wanted to pick a couple teeth out of his goodie bag. I was so
shocked for a second I thought it was a joke. I turned my head to the side to
find out if he was pulling my leg or not. I asked him if he was serious. He
said yeah, so I took the bag from him and looked inside. Looking inside, I saw
a bunch of frags of teeth and a couple of nice ones. I picked out a nice Isurus
Hastalis and a Isurus Retroflexis. I also saw a desori in the bag, but for some
reason I didn't pick the desori. I don't even have a desori and looking back on
it I wish I would have picked out the desori. O well. It dosen't really matter,
I got 2 free teeth! The teeth weren't perfect, in-fact they were shamer teeth,
but they are still quite nice for getting them for free. After a couple more
hours of surface collecting, I moved to the piles. I brought a 20 gallon tub
with about 5 gallons of water. I sifted the piles using the water so that I
could separate the dirt from the teeth more easily. The finds from the piles
weren't that great, so I decided that next year I would just surface collect
the whole time. During the festival I caught up with Bill Eberlin (Megateeth)
and Meg Hunter Al. Both of them are really cool guys. I even got their
autographs! Next year I will take some more video of other peoples finds! Hope
to see some of you there.
Here's the video!
