Rainy and cool,,what to do? Head south!!It was Friday evening and the weekend was supposed to be rainy and cool. I was killing time on the computer and clicked on my tab for North Carolina weather...sunny and 70! There was only one thing to do..start packing.
It was 2AM when I pulled out of the driveway. The rain stayed with us until we were just across the NC VA border. After one wrong turn and a 45 mile detour through the NC countryside we arrived at our destination. Waders on and packs on our backs and away we went. After a short walk I saw MikeDOTB whom I met just a few weeks earlier. We exchanged hellos and walked together a short distance to where we started hunting. Right away we started finding lots of bone and some worn teeth. Then a Mako really wide but with a small chunk out of the root corner. After that the teeth kept coming. Several other Makos, worn Megs, several Great White blades without roots, a couple whale teeth and some nice whale inner ear bones and then I saw some sharp serrations sticking out of a shovel of material. I grabbed it out and said "Hey I just found a nice Meg! As I held it out I realized it wasn't a Meg..It was a Great White!!!! It was huge with sharp serrations and a complete root! It was the tooth I had come to NC for. I later measured it...3 1/16"!!! Just after finding it a little friend was noticed on the bank sunning himself. Maybe he was the gaurdian of the teeth? Several hours later I was tired and ready to get a room and some dinner. The following day we hunted a while before starting the long drive back home but not before adding a few more Great Whites and some nice Crow Shark teeth to my haul. I can't wait to head back south. 13 available
