Birthday Run
I didn't think I'd get out last weekend. I had bad
work hours leading up to Sunday and so I figured on staying in and
relaxing. Woke up late and was taking it easy when I was asked what
I wanted to do for my birthday. I thought back to other reports I
had seen when people have had good luck on their birthday and so I
couldn't resist taking a trip to my favorite beach. I had to make it
a quick trip (I had family waiting for me) and coupled with getting
there late, I wasn't expecting to find a ton of teeth. I didn't find
that many but I sure did have some birthday luck.
I found my biggest mako yet at 2 3/16,
and it's a beauty! It's in great condition and a lot more glossy than the photos (also there's a little
matrix remaining that I still have to carefully remove, any advice?). While I
love megs, big makos are my favorite teeth to find so I thanked the
fossil gods for my favorite birthday gift this year (I didn't tell the family
that) and hurried home. I included some ground shots I hurried to
take.

That's one beautiful tooth! Congratulations! In July, I also found my biggest Otodus tooth...so I know the feeling and it's friggin' awesome.

Thanks guys! FB your birthday post (and luck) was one of the ones I had in mind before I went out.
DCC, that would be some good revenge for her wouldn't it? haha. Hope to see you out there soon. |

That is a nice one, for sure!
To clean off minor encrustation, I use red wine or apple cider vinegar. Soak the item for about 24 hours, do some light scraping, and repeat as needed. Once done, I also soak in plain water for a similar amount of time to get the mild acid off the tooth. If it then needs any 'restoration' I let it completely dry first, then use the old Elmer's glue and water mixture to fill-in any cracks, etc. |
