Exiled to the fossil grounds! After all of our qualtiy time together the wife had had enough and told me to go find more bones and teeth so a quick call to my buddy Jeff and we headed to Venice for three days of fossiling. We found the usual stuff except for one tooth in particular that I found which I feel is "heavenly". I also had a interesting shark encounter. It is funny how non scuba divers think that sharks must be everywhere when you are diving, and they may be, but in over 15 years of diving I have only actually seen a few not counting nurse sharks which don't count due to the lack of collectable teeth (in my opinion). Anyway, I had half a tank left and wanted to try a spot close to the beach just to see how it looked. It was getting close to dark but I figured I would just take a look to see if it would be worth further investigation the naxt day. When I got down there though there was a awesome slope with lots of broken rock that just looked to good to not check out. So I started swimming 30 or so feet up and then back down this slope looking for teeth. On maybe my third or so pass I kicked around quick and there was a 5 foot +/- shark looking right at me like it had been following me. In a instant it was gone leaving me in a cloud of silt. Soon after I found the "heavenly" tooth.

The only difference between this tooth and the ones you find in heaven is the size and maybe the tip I believe. |

I have never seen another tooth like this from Venice. |

A nice whale tooth. Most of the ones I have found in Venice are more worn than this one. |
