York River st.parkThis morning the dog and I headed out to York river st.park. Teeth are rare on this little stretch of beach but I have found a few. The way I figured it if I find something, cool, if not, it's ok, the dog wouldn't mind. When I got down to the beach the tide was low and the water was calm. With the dog zipping around playing in the mud, I slowly walked in search of enamel sheathed bones. The first tooth I found was a small land mamal tooth black from years of exposure to the elements. About twenty minutes later I found a small tooth poking out of the sand. If that had been the only tooth I found, I would have been happy. My record for a day at the this park up to this point was one tooth, so my par had been met. By this time mud puppy was starting to wind down from running, jumping over logs and attempting to climb the cliffs. I looked around for a little longer not finding anything else until I saw some shine in the sand under a old rotten log. I scooped it up and brushed it off revealing a pretty pink mako tooth. Good times. Having broken my previous record I leashed up the pup and started back to the trail. Check out my 8/17/08 post to see the only other tooth I have found at York river st. park. Thanks again for checking in, DBTB.
