Another great weekend

This weekend presented itself as another opportunity to hit the beach. I went home to attend my girlfriend’s birthday party with her family and once again found myself on the beach at night until 3:30am. I don’t know why, but I can’t seem to pull myself away. On Friday I worked a 12-hour day, and then drove 5 hours to get home. I arrived at midnight. I dressed in warm clothes and hit the beach with flashlights in hand. I had to hunt on my family’s beach since it was much closer than my normal spot. I did well for a night hunt.

The next day was her birthday (actually, she was born on Leap Day), so I got up at 7am and hit the beach before they all woke up. I get a call at 4:30pm asking if I’m still alive, and if I’m planning on attending the party… OOOPS, time slipped away from me again. After several sincere apologies and a really nice gift, I’m back in good graces. Everyone is having a good time at the party, but all I can think about is what teeth I didn’t get a chance to find. I know… I need a life, right!?! After everyone gets toasted (with a little help from Jose Cuervo), I decide to slip out and head back to the beach, where I found several more REALLY nice teeth.  I was there until 1:30am. It was raining, cold, very dark, and the tide was EXTREMELY high. Conditions couldn’t be any worse for me, but I still managed to find a few teeth.  At one point I thought there was a bobcat or some other large predatory animal following me. It was then that I made an executive decision and vacated the beach in a VERY rapid manner. I didn’t know what was worse… fighting for my life on the beach or jumping in the water to save myself and freezing to death. I think I made the right decision because I’m here now writing about it.

I got up early the next day and hit the beach. Once again, I made several nice finds in the pouring rain. The temperature was dropping quickly, and I had to prepare for my trip back to NC. After all was said and done, I had a great weekend even including my imaginary near death experience.

Looks like in pic #2 in addition to your teeth, not only did you get the nose of the bonito, you may have found it's tail (hypural fan), and you've got some more otoliths, a piece of shark cartilage, and a porpoise tooth. Nice day. Content Quality : 10 of 10
