ConesDuring a recent visit to the Hell Creek formation (Late Cretaceous) of South Dakota I came across an area with large slabs of petrified wood and cones. The cones were from ancient sequoia trees. One area produced several dozen cones ranging in size from .5 to 2.5 inches. I cast one of the larger ones for our future dinosaur display.

An original cone and it's cast. Can you tell which one is the cast? |
