Castle HayneThis past week was out annual vacation to Ocean Isle, NC. The first picture is of teeth that I found in the surf. On Friday of last week, I made the trek north to Castle Hayne Quarry. I don't recall seeing any trip reports from there on here as of yet. After the hour long trip, I checked in and made my way to the collecting area. The area for fossil collecting was pretty massive. But, some of it was really overgrown. And I didn't feel like running into any snakes so I didn't venture in there. A little farther back there were hills of loose rock where I found most of the teeth. The rock hills were quick to give way which made it treacherous. My first decent find was a little beat up ric. About an hour into the hunt I happened upon my best find of the day... the crow tooth. I also found a cool little tooth in matrix and a broken mosasaur? tooth. Collecting was from 1-4 pm but my day was cut short as a massive thunderstorm sent my running back to the car at 2:30. It was a good experience nonetheless. Oh I put this under Pender County since there was no choice for New Hanover County, NC on the list.
