Living a Charmed LifeThe post festival fossil hunt is always fun, but the weather can sometimes be brutal. The temps this time were very reasonable for being nearly June. The 'competition' for the hunt spots is getting more extreme every year but luckily for me I made the list again this year. Nobody had hunted the area for a few weeks and there was lots of rain so it was pretty promising. I realized on the way to the parking lot that I left my camera in the hotel shangi-la, so I wasn't able to pull any ground shots this trip - which was a real bummer cause I love those shots.
I headed out and quickly lost track of rivrdigr on about the second hill. Almost everyone headed to the back and I had good luck in the spring on the front hills so I thought I would try the front again. I was slowly moving across the hills and not finding a whole lot. Then I spotted a big tigershark tooth which is great cause I love tigers. I came around the side of the hill and was looking up at a higher level on he hill and saw a tip sticking out from under a shell. Had I been walking directly over it I don't think I would have been able to spot it. The tip looked like a mako but when I flicked back the shell I got a nice surprise - yet *another* parotodus. Please don't hate the player - but that makes my second aurora benedeni this year, and my 3rd for 2008 (in 3 hunt weekends). Holy crap what luck!!!!!
The rest of the day was a blur - I was busy floating on the glory. I actually took a couple of long breaks to chat with fellow hunters which helps explain (in part) the limited take from this trip. I did score a couple other nice teeth but lets be honest, the rest all pale in comparison.
I also picked up a case to FINALLY display my great white dentition. It matches the cases in the Fossil Museum for their dentitions - and although I didn't find the teeth on this hunt, I still thought I would throw the picture in .

Most of the take, minus all the verts I gave away. |

The biggest Porpoise tooth I have found to date - nice wear on each side from the top teeth rubbing against it. |

All three of my benedeni's from this year - a charmed life indeed. The latest is on the right. |
