Aurora Fossil Fest HuntIt’s been a long time since we have made a post, all due to working up at the museum getting it ready for the fossils festival. Now we will have a lot more time to get all our trips in. So I guess we will start with the special festival hunt. Thanks again for PCS for allowing us to keep hunting.
Every chance that we get into the mine I always say this is the day that I am going to find my Parotodus or a complete big Meg. I guess I will just have to wait for the fall hunt to get my tooth. On the other hand I did manage to find a 4 5/8” Sperm Whale tooth that had some enamel on it. I also got a first for me, a nice Squalodon molar but it was a shame that the root was busted off. And I also found what I believe to be a bramble gill raker but I'm not to sure. On the other hand, my wife found a couple cow sharks and a nice posterior Chub that measures a little over 1”. Then it was just about an hour before we were getting ready to leave and all I here is “awhh…sweeet!” Then I knew she had found something good. She found a 2 3/16” Chub or juvenile Meg. We didn’t end up getting anything big this day, but we can’t complain. It’s always fun getting to hunt with everyone and to see all the great finds. Until next time….Good Hunting!!!!
Update: I just found out what the gill raker came from. Its a Basking shark gill raker (Cetorhinus parvus )
