A hodgepodge of mediocrityThis is actually 2 days worth of hunting. The spots are really drying up so finding teeth is
tough lately. On a side note, I've got a little story to share. A couple weeks ago, tha duDe
and I were scouting new places. We rolled up into this new development and saw a pond that
had been dug by fossilers all the way around the edge. The pond had already been graded but
not hydroseeded, so we decided to just see what was there. We were splashing the reject
piles left by the ones who dug out the pond. After we splashed a section, we used our
shovels to fill the dug-out area. Well, we got busted and nearly arrested for even being
there. Because we had shovels with us, we almost got in even more trouble for destruction of
property. I guess the guy saw where we were filling in the edge and that's probably why
we're not in jail, but he told us to fill in the whole all the way around the pond and then
leave, which we did. Well, today we went back and tried to get permission to look on some
reject piles - bad plan. We got verbally hammered by the crew and I had to go apologize to
the owner. They had heard about this web site, and were skeeved because they said it
encouraged people to tresspass and destroy property. I really hope that isn't true. It was a
really bad situation. I'll never go near that place again, and I'm 100% sure that they will
arrest anyone caught trespassing on sight from now on. No one is allowed to hunt fossils
there ever again. Its a shame, too, because I hear that they are digging 30 ponds in this
development. Morals of the story: (1) always get permission BEFORE you hunt in an area, (2)
be respectful of areas where you are allowed to hunt.
