A Grand FinaleToday was my shortest hunt since I only had to fill the time my wife was gone bowling. It was an opportunity for the weEzlinG to burn off some energy, though, and for me to hunt one last time this holiday weekend. Indiana and Buffalo were already out there, and Buffalo was thrilled to have found his first 5 inch plus megalodon tooth that very day by just walking. It had a lot of peel on the front, but was otherwise very nice. They decided to hang out a little longer and dig a little while with us. We were in the pond that tha boY and I discovered last weekend. Anyway, Just as they started digging, I unearthed a nice angustidens where I was. It was over 2 inches long and appeared to be complete, but I didn't want to clean away too much clay while the tooth was wet for fear that it would crumble. I & B called it quits a little while later, and I wasn't too far behind. Of course we had to stay and play on the big dirt piles for a little bit, but that's to be expected. Just before we left, I happened to spy tha boY's boots lying on the ground. I wondered several things to myself. One, how could these boots still be here a week after my kid left them? Two, how could a fossil hunter related to ME forget an implement as important as boots. Finally, three, I wonder if the Taco Bell down the street has Chili Cheese Burritos? By the way, the angustidens tooth cleaned up far better than I thought it would. Its absolutely gorgeous and completely intact. It was sitting in that netherlayer between the light tan Chandler Bridge and the heavy lag deposit of the Wando formation. It probably should have been destroyed, but somehow escaped unscathed. Man, its awesome looking! What a way to end the Thanksgiving fossil fest!
