While You Were SleepingThe first fossil hunt for me of 2009 was this weekend at LaFarge. It promised to be cold, dark (to start) and not much rain in past few weeks. So I got up at 5AM and trekked down to the SC Lowcountry for some collecting. I arrived about 6:45 and it was literally the crack of dawn. Speaking of that, I used date this girl who loved Sandra Bullock…..ooops wrong post. I entered the pit bundled up and strained my eyes to try to find some fossils. It was too dark so I walked over to some spoil piles. I managed a nice ray plate, almost complete, and then ran into T$. Just like my forum post, T$ had racked some museum quality, gem, grade A++ sea urchin spines. Totally tubular I tell ya. We both surfaced collected for a bit and then dug some where greencap was exposed. I bagged two rics, some smaller teeth and quite a few fish spines. T$ had dug a partial archaeocete tooth. Sweet!!! I left the pit tired but all things considered I had a good hunt.

The two auriculatus came from the greencap - directly above the Santee Limestone. The larger specimen was found broken and was repaired. |
