Post procrastination

It seems as I get older, life gets busier and busier. I've only been able to go out hunting twice in the past month, and the teeth I found in this picture, I found on Thanksgiving day. I had plans of going to one place, but I didn't want to go alone so I called my tooth hunting pal Indiana to share in the feast or famine, whatever was to be. He had just found 9 new ponds, and as he regaled me with tales of hawthorne spread over acres and acres of empty lots, my thoughts quickly turned to how complete our domination over dirt would be this day. So we scrapped my idea, and with another buddy, 2th h00ver, we set off on our journey. I was doubly excited because I just got a new 4x4, the ultimate addition to my fossil repertoire. With the heavy rains from earlier in the week, there would be mud. Oh, yes. There would be mud. As we arrived to the first spot, there was a freshly dug pond as promised. But it wasn't freshly dug enough because there were footprints all around it. Just like there were footprints all around all the other ones, too. We didn't do very well there, so we left for another fresh pond. Again, there were footprints everywhere, but we did manage to find an area in one pond with some nice layer right at the water's edge, so we splashed a little to find a few teeth. But the layer over there West Ashley is so unpredictable. Sometimes its unbelievable and loaded with Oligocene goodies. That day, everything was mangled like it had been through a rock tumbler. Onto our final destination, it was seemingly a waste of time. Along with footprints everywhere, there was hardly any layer for us to scour. Finally as we were about to give up and go home to eat Turkey, we found a freshly dug pond. No footprints. Teeth all over the place. Guess where it was? RIGHT NEXT TO A TEE-OFF ON A GOLF COURSE!!! As I tried my hardest not to slip down the steep banks and pick up the teeth that were dispersed every couple of feet, annoyed golfers were leaning on their clubs waiting for me to move out of their way so they could tee off. I had about 45 seconds in the pond, but I found so many teeth that I was almost in tears that I had to leave so soon after finally finding nirvana. Well, lets not say "in tears". That wouldn't be manly. I gave a Hank Hill-esque "Dangit" and then left. No one really found anything great that day, but it was such a nice day to be outside that we had fun anyway.

This is the best tooth I found, but its still a little worn. It did make a great photo, though.
