Meg-spirationWith all the rain this week, again our hopes were high at our new favorite spot. We arrived at 3:30 on a beautiful, sunny, breezy, SC spring day. It couldn't have been better conditions to collect. We combed the fields and rock laden hills with the scrutiny of the CSI detectives, but there was no killer tooth to be found. I did find one shamer of a 3 3/4" angustidens, but I won't show a close-up because I wouldn't want to give anyone that same sick feeling I had when I saw the mangled root. We finally settled down to dig next to the
alligator pond (there's a pond next to the digging area where a 5 foot alligator lives). My basic pattern was dig, find nothing, move, repeat. Somewhere in there I found a nice horse tooth and an unidentified mammal tooth of some kind, but no nice shark teeth. I sat down to dig next to where t$ found his big meg a couple weeks ago when I had an inspiration. I saw a place where water had flowed between two higher piles of rocks, and I knew that there was a
meg there. A voice in my head kept saying "Move!". I finally listened, and as soon as I found the spot I saw, I started digging. Wouldn't you know it that less than a minute later, I had unearthed the beauty I now hold? Maybe its the fluke meg, maybe something of a super-power awakening inside me? Wouldn't that be cool? A tooth finding super power?? WOW! I would wear earth colored tights with an emblem of a tooth on my chest, and I would ride around on my enchanted back-hoe. Ok, maybe not. tha duDe called it meg-spiration, so maybe I'll stick with that. I didn't dwell on it at Taco Bell, but those Gorditas were sweeter
since I knew I had a nice meg to clean up when I got home!
