Calvert Cliffs Rarity I almost stayed home today. I didn't get to sleep last night until after 2 am (joys of having a three week old baby in the house!), and was up at 6:45 am to get the older kids up for school. Plus, I seem to be catching my wife's cold. I was literally sick and tired! I decided to go to my favorite beach, though, because my stepdaughter stayed home from school and was able to help with the baby, and opportunities to go during the week are rare for me now. Plus, after reading Tony's post from yesterday, I wasn't getting back to sleep anyway (Awesome finds, Tony!).
I sure am glad I went! I spotted what I thought was a Mako partially buried in the sand, and when I pulled it out, I was stunned: a near-perfect Alopias Grandis! This tooth measures 1 5/8 inches on the slant, and is 1 1/8 inches wide. I could have been happy if I left then!
I continued on. Lots of Snaggleteeth, some large Sand Tigers, and some Makos, most of which had some damage. At the last stretch before turning around, I spied a nice lower Mako tooth laying completely exposed! The root is somewhat worn, but it still measures 1 13/16 inches. Icing on the cake!
I know that most sensible people, if they felt like I did this morning, would have stayed home and rested. Makes me glad that I'm as nuts as I am! It's funny, though, how finding a really nice tooth can make you forget all about feeling lousy!
Good Hunting to all!
