Rain... Ditch... FossilsEven though my favorite ditch is pretty much common knowledge among local fossil hunters, I still thought it was a good place to try on a sunny day, two days after a nice rain. You can't find anything if you don't go. My son and I walked the normal route and found that even though the ditch had been walked, the guy with first dibs on the finds came when the water was high. Today we could see the bottom perfectly, and we found a bunch of stuff. Nothing super killer, but you can't argue with the total quantity and quality of some of the smaller teeth. We both got a superior hemipristis tooth, and tha weEzlinG managed to find a nice saw fish rostral tooth. He was thrilled since he actually found it on his own. He kept mentioning how he couldn't believe that I missed it but he found it. Nothing like the innocent remark of my four year old to remind me that I miss stuff all the time! Still though, there's no one else I'd rather have score the sweet from right next to me.

The sawfish tooth is 3 3/8 inches long. Not bad for tha weEzlinG's first one ever. |
